We all had fun together and spent some valuable bonding time in the midst of the most beautiful landscape. We would recommend this trip absolutely. It was great for our family because it is a good, safe and a less stressful way of having this wonderful experience (having a guide, cook, motivator, organizier with you).
Mechtersheimer family, Australia
“The moment you head onto the pass and the whole East Matukituki opens up in front of you. It's a staggering view from what was previously a somewhat enclosed environment. The thrill of climbing the waterfall face would be a close second.”
Matthew Pike, NZ
Custom Wild Walk: "I loved NZ, the people, the wildlife, the picturesque scenery, and the humor, efficiency, and professionalism of the AG staff. I would definitely like to come back. "
Mary Miller, USA
"A real team approach from the Aspiring Guides outfit ( and I mean everyone from the office to the guides). Wanaka a lovely base. We really felt we had experienced climbing in New Zealand rather than just another Alpine climb."
Simon Laker, UK
Wilderness hiking in New Zealand's remote Mt Aspiring National Park. Multi day glacier hiking on NZ's highest glaciers.
Multi-day hut to hut, guided snowshoe hiking adventures in the Wanaka & Queenstown snow covered winter backcountry
The wild and remote nature of New Zealand's landscape and weather means that for most people, wilderness hiking is limited to a few well established walking trails. While these popular tracks are often called "The Great Walks" they are not the best walks - just the well known & busy ones!
We guide only small groups (max 5) on our New Zealand multi-day hiking and trekking safaris. Let us take you on a truly "Wild Walk" - where no one else can. From seriously tough treks like our 8 day Gillespie Rabbit Pass Traverse, widely regarded as New Zealand's hardest guided trek to easier walks suitable for the whole family like our 4 day Upper Wilkin Experience.
Regardless of whether you're an experienced hiker and want to challenge yourself on New Zealand's hardest hiking trails or glaciers or you want to share a true wilderness experience with your family - we have a Wild Walk to suit you.
The northern section of the Mt Aspiring National Park is a majestic and seldom travelled area. The surrounding peaks and huge tracts of unmodified native bush give a feeling of timelessness. This area has some of the most dramatic and undiscovered trekking in New Zealand and is part of the Te Wahipounamu World heritage site.
For our hiking trips, we stay at pre-placed camp sites which means you only carry a light pack. We rarely see other parties. On our snowshoe hikes - we have our own private huts and for our glacier trekking - high alpine huts at 2300m ( 7500ft ) above the Tasman Sea.
While the scenery, plant and bird life is spectacular on all treks, many people do not realise that New Zealand has no large predators. No bears, fox or wolf. There are also no snakes or other animals to harm you! To preserve this unique environment, our trips are also run to the strictest environmental standards of any guiding company in New Zealand.
You don't need to be a mountaineer to explore the highest New Zealand Glaciers. New Zealand's world famous glaciers are often explored near the valley floors however the real excitement is found at much higher elevations, where this impressive trek takes place. Over five exciting days you'll traverse between the highest glaciers in the country and improve your glacier travel skills at the same time. Surrounded by 3000m+ peaks including NZ's highest and 2nd highest peaks, Mt Cook and Mt Tasman, you will be hiking at 2300m on ice that is hundreds of metres thick.
Just because it's winter in New Zealand, it doesn't mean that you can't go hiking. While the valleys are shaded by a low winter sun, the rolling slopes of the vast Pisa Range, near Wanaka are perfect for hiking in snowhoes. Based from our private hut located in a sheltered rock cirque above a frozen lake, you can choose to take trips out on the range to breathtaking viewpoints or travel to other huts located on the range. No technical skill is required for snowshoeing. If you can hike you can snowshoe!
